Equip Update

View online

15th August 2026

Dear Guest,

As we reach the end of another academic year, we’d like to thank you for being part of the Equip Hub community. It’s been a joy to share opportunities for learning, encouragement and ministry with you over the past months. As many of us head into a quieter summer season, we pray you’ll find time to rest, be refreshed in God’s presence, and return with renewed vision for all that He is calling you to.

This is our final newsletter until September, so do take a look at the events and courses below—and we look forward to reconnecting with you after the summer.

Best wishes,

The Equip Hub Team

Catch up with Course Recordings

Interested in one of our Zoom courses but worried about missing a session? Fear not! Every session is recorded and sent to everyone who has signed up, giving you the flexibility to catch up whenever you need.

John’s Gospel – A Storyteller’s Perspective

When John wrote his Gospel, he selected a small number of stories about Jesus that he retold in detail, and a small number of Jesus’ metaphors, which he recorded in detail. In this course Rob Harrison – who has written two novels about Jesus (and is working on a third) – will explore John’ Gospel from a storyteller’s perspective. He will unfold the drama of the narratives and the emotional resonances of the metaphors to uncover what John, the storyteller, is telling us about Jesus.

Five weekly sessions starting on Tuesday 8th September, 7:30pm – 9pm on Zoom

Growing Faith Connections

Growing faith seeks to put children at the centre of all that we do. This course focusses on four key ‘connections’ that make a difference to including and involving children and youth in church life.

– Voices – how we listen and make space for their voices to be heard.
– Relationships – developing links between the different areas of their lives.
– Rhythms – recognising/creating patterns to move deeper into participation.
– Purpose – finding shared purpose so they see faith having an impact on our lives.

While the focus of this course will be around children, it is important to note that these four connections can also impact other voices in our church or community that can go unheard. A helpful reminder that work in one area can impact others at the same time.

The sessions will be lead by Anna Naish starting Monday 21st September 7:30-9pm on Zoom. The final session will take place in person.

Preaching Visually

Preaching is about more than just the words that we say.

This session will offer good practice in using screens, and explore a variety of ways to visually engage a congregation that will help make preaching more effective. We will also consider the importance of body language in preaching.

This session will be led by Rob Harrison.

This session will be led by Rob Harrison. Thursday 15th October, 7pm – 9pm, St Oswald’s Church, Rugby

Pastoral Visits

Pastoral visits usually take place when someone is emotionally or physically vulnerable. This can make visits feel daunting for everyone involved. This session will focus on what we can do to help put people at ease before and during visits so that they feel supported, heard and safe. This will include practical things we can do (and not do), how to listen well and how to approach spiritual topics or prayer.

This session is aimed at people who are exploring or engaged in a pastoral visiting ministry or a ministry where you have pastoral responsibilities. These might be formal or informal roles. It may also be helpful to those who find themselves supporting other people to consider how you do that well.

This session will be led by Anna Naish and Lou Peet. Wednesday 21st October, 7-9pm, Holy Trinity Parish Centre, Stratford-upon-Avon

Worship in the Bible

What is worship? And what forms of worship might be most appropriate in our own culture and context? These are important questions for the future of the Christian church.

Through the story of the Bible people worshiped God in a variety of ways, from slaughtering animals and sprinkling their blood on one another, to singing and reciting ancient texts.

Over five zoom sessions, Rob Harrison will explore how worship was expressed in different phases of the Bible’s story, and consider the significance of those practices within their own cultural framework.

Starting Wednesday 4th November, 7:30pm – 9pm on Zoom.

Intergenerational Church

Creating a worship space for everyone is no easy task, but it’s worth trying! Corporate worship is about everyone being welcomed and everyone being able to participate.

This session will be sharing ideas about how we can better involve a range on ages within the same worship. We will cover key elements:
• For creating a service that is specifically designed to be intergenerational.
• For adapting current worship to be more age inclusive.
• Big ideas and gentle shifts.

This session will be led by Anna Naish.

Monday 23rd November, 7pm – 9pm, St Paul’s Church, Leamington Spa

Active Listening

How does it feel when someone checks their watch as you are talking…especially if you are sharing something personal? Or perhaps when they start talking before you finished your sentence…when you are trying to explain something?

It is so easy to be distracted both in a quick chat and in a deep conversation. This session focusses on how we can choose to be active and present in a conversation so people know the value we place on them.

This session is designed for anyone; you may have a specific ministry or role that requires listening (leadership, pastoral, part of a team etc) or you may attend with your friends, family, colleagues and other relationships in mind.

This session will be led by Anna Naish and Lou Peet.

Wednesday 2nd December, 7-9pm, Holy Trinity Parish Centre, Stratford-upon-Avon

Real World Preaching

Preaching can help people make sense of our current world and situations.

This session will explore the interaction of scripture and real life, considering the purpose and opportunity of preaching. As well as sharing practical techniques for maintaining real-world relevance, we will discuss issues of scriptural authority and usefulness.

This session will be led by Rob Harrison.

Thursday 3rd December, 7pm – 9pm St Giles Church, Coventry
