What is it?
The Reconciliation learning course will introduce you to the Coventry story, its present expression, and the theology, theory and practical application of that story for today in the life of communities and the local church.
Sessions
14th January 2025 – The Coventry Reconciliation Story: (leader: John Witcombe)
We all know some of the story, but in this overview we will look at the foundations and key themes of Coventry’s unique vocation to reconciliation, and how this has played out locally and internationally over the last 85 years, bringing hope an transformation in many different contexts. We will also begin to develop our own definitions of ‘reconciliation’.
21st January – The Bible: Stories of Reconciliation: (leader: Mary Gregory)
The Bible is a rich resource to explore the cost of conflict and the long and winding path towards reconciliation. We’ll consider stories which model reconciliation, but which also speak of its cost, and of our resistance to it. We’ll tackle some problem texts which draw out some of the complexity of seeking to heal the wounds of history, to learn to live with difference and celebrate diversity, and to build a culture of justice and peace.
28th January – Arts and Reconciliation:
We’ll be exploring why the arts might be a powerful tool in the process of reconciliation, in revealing common ground with others and inspiring us to imagine new ways of being. We’ll look at examples of how art has furthered reconciliation, especially through rich storytelling, and think about how we could use the arts in our own communities.
4th February – An Introduction to Reconciliation Theory and Praxis: (leader: Emma Griffiths)
This session will examine reconciliation as peace building. Using current theory and praxis we will explore managing difference positively, encountering ‘other’ and the soft skills involved personal relationships.
11th February – Reconciliation and Mission: (leader: John Witcombe)
In our Diocese, two of our key priorities are reconciliation and mission. How can they work together? We will be looking at how reconciliation can offer a refreshing and revitalizing approach to mission in a local context as we seek to be obedient to Jesus’ call to build the Kingdom of God in the church and in the world.

Car sharing
We really encourage car sharing both for the environment and because we are aware not everyone has easy access to a car or public transport. There are a couple of questions in the booking form for those that would like to offer and/or receive lifts so we can connect people who are close to one another. Please note it asks for the first 3 or 4 letters of your postcode (e.g. CV6, CV12) so we can put you in touch with relevant people.
