Dear Guest,
October is feeling busy in my house. We seem to be spending a lot of time organising and preparing for the next thing we need to be going to. Last week one of my sons asked “Are you listening?” and the honest answer was “No” because my mind was busy and I hadn’t really heard his story despite nodding along. I wonder how often we think we are listening to the people around us at home, in church, at work or over coffee but we are distracted. Very few of us are natural listeners and it makes me grateful for a God who is always listening fully to us.
I’d encourage you to take time to really listen to the next person you speak to…give them the time and focus that God wants us to give one another. And, if like me, listening is not always easy do listen to Lou Peet’s video below about listening well.

Active Listening
Lou Peet has spent time as a GP and Is currently a school chaplain. Here she helps us think about our relationship with listening and an opportunity to invest in our ability to really listen (something that rarely comes naturally to us)

This Pathway focusses on the key areas that help children grow in faith (having a voice, developing relationships, rhythms and creating purpose) not just in church but across their whole lives. Over the course of the Pathway we explore these areas and how they might look in your current and future context.
It will help you to reflect on your current practice and consider small changes that make a big difference as well as encouraging us to think about what is next. Participants will be able to share ideas and learn from one another…and then return to our own spaces and learn from our children and youth too.
