As we enter winter, the cost of living crisis is at the forefront of everyone’s minds. Many of us will be keeping a close eye on our smart meters, turning down the thermostat and trying our best to avoid long trips to save on fuel. For some, this winter will be devastating and for others it will cause a significant lifestyle change. Even for those who are financially stable and somewhat unaffected by the rising costs may be worried about friends and family or feel overwhelmed by the need to help those who are struggling. The worry and stress of higher costs has led to declining mental health across the nation.

Many of us will be feeling the effects of the cost of living crisis. In the last few years, costs have been steadily rising, with inflation at a 30-year high and food, fuel and energy prices increasing with wages and benefits not keeping up. For some the result of this is devastating, with rising numbers unable to meet their basic living needs such as adequate heating for the home, appropriate clothing or good nutrition. Churches are also suffering with increasing costs which in inhibiting their abilities host services and events as well as helping those in need.

In this group you will find advice and resources to help your church navigate the cost of living crisis. You’ll also be able to ask questions and share ideas with others.

Open the Book Info Session

Open the Book (OtB) offers primary school children an opportunity to hear key Bible stories told by a team of Christians from local churches, who present the stories during assemblies or acts of collective worship. Each presentation takes around 10–15 minutes and can be incorporated into a wider school assembly, or can stand alone. It is a three-year rolling programme with an additional but optional year of material based on Christian values for schools.

Coventry Ukrainian Auction
Coventry University Ukrainian Society is presenting the Ukrainian Fundraising Auction and Exhibition to fundraise money for Ukraine and increase awareness about the War.

Their mission is to organise a Gala Evening Fundraiser in the format of an auction to gain their goal stage of £30,000 for the humanitarian needs of Ukrainians in both Ukrainian native cities and evacuation places.

The event will take place at Coventry Cathedral on 9th November, 18:00-21:00. For more information click here.

City Praise and Prayer 2022
City Praise and Prayer will take place on Sunday 13th November where we will be praying not only for Coventry, but for our nation at this time.

We are planning to gather at 6:30pm at CLM Church (CV1 2HG), with worship led by a band and singers from different churches and prayer sections led by different church leaders.
Ralph Vaughan Williams 150th Anniversary Concert
In honour of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ralph Vaughan Williams Coventry Cathedral Chorus will be performing a selection of his most powerful works for Remembrance, part of the annual Coventry International Peace Festival.

It will take place on 12th November from 7:00pm-9:00pm at Coventry Cathedral. Tickets cost £22/£15 (students and under 18s half price). For more information, click here.
Brinklow Christmas Market
Over 60 stallholders will be displaying  a wide variety of items suitable for Christmas presents and decorations, both inside and outside the Church, community halls and pubs in Brinklow.

Refreshments will also be on sale. Raffle prizes will include a Xmas hamper. Proceeds will go to village organisations. Children can visit Father Christmas in his grotto. Everybody can admire the nativity scene outside the church and the switch on of the Christmas tree lights by Father Christmas at 5.15pm when the Brinklow Choir will sing Christmas songs.

It is hoped village residents will follow suit and light up their own trees and Christmas lights to join in this special village event.
St Edith's Church Christmas Fayre
St Edith’s Church, Monks Kirby are having a Christmas Craft Fayre in aid of St Edith’s Church on Saturday 12th November, from 11.00am – 4.00pm.

Entry is free and there will be crafts, refreshments and a raffle.
Diocesan Vacancies
Priest-in-Charge, St Paul's Foleshill
In 2022 the adjoining parish of Foleshill St Laurence has been designated as one of 6 Diocesan Mission Hubs; to equip and resource parishes in mission and discipleship.  Following discernment and consultation, it is envisaged that the successful postholder will be supported in ministry through a new hub collaborative leadership team between St Laurence’s and St Paul’s (and potentially other parishes).  This would initially be on a relational basis to establish trust and to identify potential areas for shared mission opportunities – including the planting of new worshipping communities.

We are looking for someone with the following qualities:

– INSPIRING – The ability to inspire people and bring enthusiasm for new patterns of contemporary worship on Sunday.
– WELCOMING – Encourage new members to grow and be committed to St. Pauls’ Church, by identifying and nurturing the individuals, helping them to find their place in its mission, and by finding and developing their spiritual gifts through dedicated small groups.
– CARING – A visible leader with the capacity to lead and model through compassion and care within our congregation and the wider parish community.
– EMPOWERING– Working with us to develop a leadership team able to serve and develop our vision to reach our community with the Gospel and the love of God.
– PASSIONATELY MISSION FOCUSED – The passion for serving in a diverse community, sustained by a deep Christian faith.  Supporting the whole church to hear the call of God and to nurture our spiritual growth and discipleship.
– EMBRACING CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE – A willingness to develop ministry with children and young people and encourage them to take a full part in our church life.
– COLLABORATION – Focus on working with St. Laurence’s mission hub to develop strategic mission and lay leader development opportunities, including a commitment to a weekly staff meeting with the Mission Hub leader and the hub clergy.
– SAFEGUARDING – An ability to develop and establish a strong culture of safeguarding within the church.

Associate Minister House for Duty, Hillmorton
We are seeking a priest who will help us to grow missionally, discipling and nurturing those in our midst; someone who is prepared to meet people where they are at, bringing the light and love of Christ into new lives.

The role is to:

– Be fully engaged with the life of both churches and wider communities.
– Be fully committed to growth, taking the roots that have already been set and using them to further disciple and nurture others, so that we may be an active visible presence in our communities and within our congregations.
– Be actively involved in the vision we have for the future of our churches in Hillmorton and Houlton.
– Help us to disciple more families, children and young people in our worshipping communities.
– Be involved in all areas of ministry with specific leadership responsibility for some areas of church life
– Conduct occasional offices
– Lead worship and preach across all our services.
– The post will be based on 3 days a week & is offered on a non-stipendiary, House for Duty basis.
