Thy Kingdom Come 2022 Thy Kingdom Come is a global prayer movement that invites Christians around the world to pray for more people to come to know Jesus between Ascension and Pentecost. After the very first Ascension Day the disciples gathered with Mary, constantly devoting themselves to prayer while they waited for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Like them, our reliance on the gift of the Holy Spirit is total – on our own we can do nothing. Through the centuries Christians have gathered at that time to pray for the coming of the Holy Spirit. ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ picks up this tradition. Over the years more and more worshipping communities have dedicated the days between Ascension and Pentecost to pray ‘Come Holy Spirit’. Since its start in May 2016 God has grown Thy Kingdom Come from a dream of possibility into a movement. Christians from 172 countries have taken part in praying ‘Come Holy Spirit’, so that friends and family, neighbours and colleagues might come to faith in Jesus Christ. Read more

Energy Footprint Tool is open The Energy Footprint Tool has reopened for churches around the country to enter their 2021 utility bills, and find out their carbon footprint. In February 2020, the General Synod announced an ambitious target for the Church of England to become net zero by 2030. The Energy Footprint Tool is an important step in measuring a baseline of current emissions, and to measure progress towards achieving this goal. This is a first step for the Church of England to understand and monitor the footprint of some 40,000 buildings across England. Encountering God: Spirituality This module is designed to help us take stock of where God is at work in our busy lives.  Whether through prayer, scripture, the great outdoors or the simple encounters of everyday life, God can and does speak to each one of us and uses us to speak to others.  Come along to find practical ways to experience more of God’s presence in your life. This course is split into five sessions which each last two hours. The sessions are: Session 1: Biblical foundations Session 2: Encountering God through the word Session 3: Encountering God through worship Session 4: Encountering God in daily life Session 5: What’s my spiritual style? The Collective The Collective is an evangelistic resource to introduce people to what Christianity has to say about everyday issues that affect us all. The message of the Christian faith is good news, but the problem is that so many people never actually hear about what this good news is! It is estimated that only 4% of the UK population regularly attend church. The collective seeks to overcome this by meeting in public spaces that are familiar whether you go to church or not. Diocesan News Community of the Cross of Nails Events Three very special online events are taking place as part of the Community of the Cross of Nails online gathering around Coventry Cathedral’s 60th anniversary thanksgiving celebrations later this month, and those across Coventry Diocese are very welcome to join any of them if they so wish. On Monday 23rd May, from 3.30-6pm, Dean John Witcombe will be in conversation with Revd Canon Paul Oestreicher, on the subject Healing the Wounds of History in a time of War. Many will remember Paul Oestreicher from his time in Coventry in the 1980s: the conversation itself will be pre-recorded, but the questions and wider conversation to follow for the later part of the session will be very much live. On Tuesday 24th May, 3.30-6pm, Dean John will chair a conversation and discussion with the Revd Mpho Tutu, daughter of Archbishop Desmond, and the Revd Wilma Jakobsen, the first female minister that he ordained, on the subject of Reconciliation, Justice and the Legacy of Archbishop Desmond. Don’t miss this chance to hear two very inspiring speakers! And on Friday 27th May, from 2.30-4.30pm, Dean John will lead a discussion session on Building a Culture of Peace, and the role for the Community of the Cross of Nails, with the help and input of the lead partners from the CCN around the globe. Diocesan Vacancies Associate Minister - Mission Hub Churches in the Diocese of Coventry The Diocese of Coventry is recruiting three new Associate Ministers, each fully funded at incumbent level with housing, for an initial period of five years. This is part of an exciting and adventurous mission strategy to see healthy churches propagate, plant, or graft 150 new worshipping communities over the next ten years. We are seeking colleagues from a breadth of traditions who fit the following person specification: – Self-starters who are good team players, but also have the skills and an ability to take on individual responsibility for key church growth projects. – Have experience in leadership in a missional church. – Teaching, enabling and facilitating in evangelism, everyday faith. – Experience of leading or responsibility in a church plant, fresh expression or re-imagining the mission of the local church. – Comfortable to work in a breadth of tradition to resource contextual mission. – Engaging preaching and communication. – Experience of developing and leading digital church services.
