St Oswald's Platter helps feed the Tile Hill community St Oswald’s Church in Tile Hill has started a new initiative to help people in the community in need of food and to reduce food waste. St Oswald’s Platter is a table full of food located in the lobby of the church building which people can take from with no questions asked. The platter is inspired by the church’s patron, St Oswald, who showed great generosity to those in need. The writer and monk, Bede, recounts a time when Oswald was eating an Easter dinner with Bishop Aidan. Oswald was eating from a silver dish full of rich foods when a servant came in and told Oswald that a crowd of the hungry people were in the streets begging alms from the king. Oswald immediately had his food given to the poor and even had the dish broken up and distributed. Read more

Loving the Enemy - a new book by Revd Andy March Next month, debutant author, Andy March releases the biography of his grandparents, Englishman Fred Clayton and German woman Rike Büttner-Wobst from Dresden, who rose above extreme suffering and defied the hatred and enmity of warring nations to build an enduring bridge of love. Andy March is vicar of St Christopher’s, Coventry. Andy travelled as part of a group from Coventry to Dresden in February 2015 to join in the commemorations marking 70 years since the city was bombed and stand with our former enemies, now friends, to declare that love must overcome hate. It was a visit that left an indelible mark on Andy and provided the catalyst for the creation of Loving the Enemy. Diocesan News Diocesan Trustees – could you help? We are seeking two lay people to become new trustees. A working knowledge or understanding of charity law would be helpful but not essential. They will be touring ten venues between the 1 – 11 November and they are playing at Nexus ICA on Thursday 4th November, starting at 7.30pm. The Doxecology album is a collection of 13 congregational worship songs on themes of creation, ecology and Christian hope. RISING Together - The Unheard Stories of Peace November 15th marks the anniversary of the day when Coventry committed itself to peace and reconciliation after the bombing of the city in November 1940. This year staff at the Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations at Coventry University are organising an online afternoon of discussion to share the ‘Unheard Stories of Peace’ to which all are warmly invited. This free online event will provide opportunities for learning, exchange and further development for people of all backgrounds who are passionate about promoting and sustaining peacefulness in our conflicted world. Diocesan Vacancies Family Link Worker - All Saints' Church Warwick All Saints’ Church, Warwick, together with federated Emscote Infants School and All Saints C of E VC Junior School, have an innovative, exciting post for a Family Link Worker, with a ‘can do’, flexible approach to the role. The successful candidate will be committed to supporting our Christian vision. The primary focus of this role is to provide mentoring and outreach support in a creative and vibrant way to children and families in the setting of a church and partnering schools, as part of the Joint Venture Charity, ‘Together for Change”. The hours are 25 hours per week, usually within the school day and the salary is Salary is £16,412 (equivalent to £24,290 per annum full time).
