| Increasing Subsistence Farming Harvests In Tanzania |
The Anglican Diocese of Central Tanganyika DCT is based in semi-arid Tanzania and runs 6 schools, 3 hospitals and agricultural training programmes in predominantly bush areas. Poor harvests remain a constant famine challenge in the region and impact 50% of the 1 million population. 68% of the farmers in the DCT region live under the UN poverty income level of US $2 per day.
They have just completed a pilot programme in 17 subsistence farming villages and results over a 3 year period have been very impressive. Harvest yields have doubled and they have eradicated 30% of harvest loss. They now want to roll out the programme to 200 villages covering 1 million people and critically empower Women who bear the brunt of farming work, by raising their status through increased harvest yields.

| Lent Resource - Children in the Shadows |
The Clewer Initiative have just launched a new resource for Lent called Children in the Shadows. The resource can be used by individuals, small groups or whole churches. It is divided up into five weeks and includes film clips from frontline experts, case studies, a short Bible reflection and prayer written by Bishop Alastair Redfern and lots of information about modern slavery and how it impacts children in the UK and beyond.
It is designed as a Lent resource but could easily be used beyond Lent by any groups keen to learn more about how to respond to modern slavery in their communities.
