Introducing the Preaching Pathway
Preaching has been a foundational feature of Christian ministry since the time of Jesus. At that time, the task of training and engaging lay preachers was part and parcel of the mission of the Gospel – teaching people to teach the teaching of Jesus.
In the Diocese of Coventry, all clergy are encouraged to discern potential lay preachers in their community, and engage them in that ministry. The diocesan training Pathway for lay preachers is offered as a resource to augment the training and support offered locally.
Please note that all required training for Pathways participants are also open to anyone as individual session for those interested in a specific topic.
What is involved?
Completing the Pathway includes:
- The learning, training and formation below.
- Practical experience organised by the participant and their incumbent – opportunities to explore and grow in this ministry.
It takes a minimum of one year to complete, but you can join at any point in the year and take longer if you would like. Sessions are spread across the year to give you time to reflect and embed the skills and learning you take away from them.

More information…
Each of the learning courses and training events are open to anyone to book. You might book as a taster, invite a team or want to refresh your ministry. You can find them all on the Equip hub.
To join this Pathway your vicar (or Churchwarden if you are in vacancy) will need to email Pathways@Coventry.Anglican.org with a short recommendation. At this point we will register you onto the Pathway and send you details for the formation group.
