What is it?

The day will give an introduction to Ignatian spirituality and its helpful Christian approaches to prayer and discernment. We will explore the life of the remarkable Christian disciple Ignatius, and experience imaginative guided prayer to take us deeper into the Scriptures.

The day will be led by Donna Worthington, an inspiring and experienced retreat giver. Some of the congregation members at Church of the Holy Ascension, Mappleborough Green, have found Donna’s recent retreats at Scargill House in North Yorkshire to be accessible, hugely helpful, and enjoyable. We are thrilled that she has agreed to come to lead a retreat day here in Warwickshire.

Donna writes about herself:

“My retreats are imaginatively, lovingly and prayerfully created so that Christians can explore and deepen their faith in a unique way. They are an invitation to be rejuvenated and affirmed in faith, to know Christ better and to open up sacred space in order to listen to the beautiful, wild, creative Holy Spirit and experience a living spirituality that consoles, challenges and inspires.

I offer you an ecumenical space so that all are welcome, whether you go to church or not. My retreats offer time to discover more deeply Christianity in all its vibrancy. I make use of a whole spectrum of approaches (such as diving deep into the Scriptures, theological/spiritual discussion, psychology, music, theatre pieces, art, images, film and silence) so that we can together enjoy a fascinating and engaging approach to spirituality. As a trained storyteller, for me, a story is a window into our imagination and wisdom; I communicate the gems of the Gospel often through this medium. A mosaic of prayer and meditation approaches are offered.

I’m passionate about this faith, I so enjoy exploring it with others and have seen how transformative it has been in many, many people’s lives. Christianity is a rich, deep tradition, a compelling space in which to do inner soul work, face our own realities and develop as human beings.”

Lunch and refreshments will be provided throughout the retreat day. For catering purposes please book in advance to ensure dietary requirements are noted and a space is reserved for you.

Everyone is also welcome to come and hear Donna preach the following day at Church of the Holy Ascension at the 10am Communion for All service on Sunday 11th May.

How to find us

From Studley/Mappleborough Green

Travelling North from the Harvester (the Dog) roundabout on the A435 towards Birmingham, pass the Mappleborough Green Garden Centre entrance and the turning for Common Lane, both on your right. Then begin to slow down and look for the road sign to the Church of the Ascension on the lefthand side (immediately opposite the church entrance). The turning to the church is on the right, displaying a church notice board.

From Birmingham

Approaching Mappleborough Green from the A435 dual carriageway, Gorcott Hill the road speed is reduced to 50mph and then 40mph. Start indicating at this point as the turning is on the left very soon after the 40mph signs.

The entrance to the driveway is at What Three Words location: equal.skills.rice
