Ordinations at Coventry Cathedral Eleven new priests and twelve new deacons were ordained this weekend. The priests were ordained by the Bishop of Coventry, the Right Reverend Dr Christopher Cocksworth, at 10.30am on Sunday 3rd July. The deacons were ordained by the Bishop of Warwick, the Right Reverend John Stroyan, at 4pm on Sunday 3rd July. By ancient tradition the Church ordains deacons and priests on a date as close as possible to the feast day of St Peter (29th June). Peter was the most prominent of the Apostles of Jesus Christ, and Jesus described him as the ‘rock’ on which the Church would be built. Read more

Diocesan News The Mission to Seafarers - Sea Sunday This year, Sea Sunday is on 10 July. It comes as seafarers face a second acute crisis, supplementing the intense difficulties they have faced during the pandemic. With 65,000 Ukrainian and 200,000 Russian crew globally, our teams around the world are dealing with very significant additional levels of stress, on top of all that has been faced since 2020. All this while the impacts and ravages of the pandemic continue to have a severely debilitating impact on seafarers everywhere. Their ministry has had to take place in radically new ways over these last two years, but it has been transformational. As one of the Church of England’s ten formal Partners in World Mission, and with integral relationships with the Anglican Communion all over the world, their ministry is the same as ours. They are asking for others to join them with their Sea Sunday focus. They need our help to raise awareness of the day and the debt of gratitude that we all owe to seafarers. For more information click here. Energy Footprint Tool The Energy Footprint Tool has reopened for churches around the country to enter their 2021 utility bills, and find out their carbon footprint. In February 2020, the General Synod announced an ambitious target for the Church of England to become net zero by 2030. The Energy Footprint Tool is an important step in measuring a baseline of current emissions, and to measure progress towards achieving this goal. This is a first step for the Church of England to understand and monitor the footprint of some 40,000 buildings across England. More and more parishes are getting involved and adding their data every day. Helping to build up a picture for the church to take action. The deadline for submissions is the end of July 2022. For more information click here. Lead Theft Lead theft is once again on the rise. We are sad to report a lead theft at Salford Priors, St Matthew. Clergy in the local area have been warned but please be vigilant. Diocesan Vacancies Associate Minister House for Duty, Benefice of Alcester Minster The Parishes of the Alcester Minster Benefice are looking to appoint an Associate Minister (House for Duty) to work alongside the Rector and other members of our growing team. The benefice has been designated one of Coventry Diocese’s six Mission Hubs. Associate Minister - Bedworth Mission Hub Church The Diocese of Coventry is recruiting a new Associate Minister, fully funded at incumbent level with housing, for an initial period of five years. This is part of an exciting and adventurous mission strategy to see healthy churches propagate, plant, or graft 150 new worshipping communities over the next ten years. Bedworth is a town located 5 miles north of Coventry. The town has a population of 32000 and the parish covers the town. Our vision is that over the next 10 years every person in Bedworth has the opportunity to have the good news of Jesus presented & demonstrated to them. We want to do this by planting churches and missional communities across our parish. So, we are looking for an Associate Vicar that can work within the predominantly evangelical charismatic theology of the parish, who enjoys motivating a large team to plant & grow new worshipping communities & who lives life to the full.
