Meet our new priests On Sunday 3rd July, eleven new priests are to be ordained at Coventry Cathedral by Bishop Christopher. The new priests have already served as deacons for a year. On their ordination as priests they will remain in their present parishes while their on-going training continues. Read more

Welcome to our new deacons On Sunday 3rd July twelve new deacons will be ordained at Coventry Cathedral by The Bishop of Warwick, the Right Reverend John Stroyan. On Tuesday 5th July one new deacon will be ordained at St John the Baptist, Leamington by The Bishop of Wakefield, the Right Reverend Tony Robinson. The new deacons have undertaken a course of study and training, and following their ordination they will serve as curates (assistant ministers) while their training continues. As deacons they will lead worship and carry out pastoral and teaching work. Welcome to our monthly feature, where we ask a member of the wider Diocesan team to share a hymn, song, or piece of music that has been a blessing to them and has helped them encounter the presence of God. James Henney, Worship & Discipleship Enabler, has recommended the song ‘I Believe’ by Jonathan and Melissa Helser, and says; ‘I spent the week before Pentecost at a conference, spending each day worshipping alongside believers from across the UK. As we begin to think of how we as a church and a society move on from the difficult times of the past few years, whilst simultaneously facing a growing cost of living crisis, this song particularly spoke to me. The words; “No matter where I go And no matter where I’ve been I will see Your goodness Lord In the land I’m livin’ in” Referencing Psalm 27:13 remind us that our God is faithful, and inspire me to have both patience and courage as I wait to see what He will do next!’ Watch video

Diocesan News Healing and Hope An uplifting evening of classical music beautifully mixed with spoken word, taking place at Stoneleigh Church on Saturday 2nd July. With international pianist Mikael Pettersson and Coventry Poet Laureate Emilie Lauren Jones. Designed to leave audience members filled with hope and positivity. A wonderful opportunity to enjoy an unforgettable show where words are weaved through melodies. Plus a couple of stunning piano solos from a world class pianist. Known for her beautiful imagery, Emilie’s poetry offers an original view of the world. All this is sprinkled with amusing little anecdotes in between pieces. The show contains original compositions as well as variations of traditional classical pieces specifically chosen to leave audience members filled with hope and positivity. Faith Alliance Summit - 13 July The Faith Alliance Summit is the first ever gathering of faith leaders from across the West Midlands with a pledge to end youth violence. The gathering will take place at Coventry Cathedral on the 13th June from 9am to 2pm. The Faith Alliance is a multi-faith network, supported by the West Midlands Violence Reduction Partnership (WM VRP), that exists to enable, equip and empower communities of all faiths and none in the West Midlands to better understand and prevent serious youth violence. The Faith Alliance Summit will provide an opportunity to look back at the work of the Faith Alliance over the last few years, to launch new resources, and to pledge a commitment to another year of Hope. Diocesan Vacancies Liturgical Assistant - Coventry Cathedral Part time 21 hours, £9.50 an hour. Coventry Cathedral is looking for a Liturgical Assistant, to enable their range of services to run smoothly. Excellent knowledge of Word & Excel is essential, and broad confidence with other IT packages is desirable. While understanding of traditional Church of England worship would be very helpful, a sympathy for the Cathedral’s vision and values and a willingness to learn is more important. Duties include preparing service booklets for all their public worship, managing rotas and communicating these to the people involved, maintaining weekly lists of readings for each service and the prayer topics to be included each week, and creating daily and weekly sheets with details of services and music for display in the Cathedral, together with ensuring the Cathedral website and internal bookings system are up to date. Associate Minister House for Duty, Benefice of Alcester Minster The Parishes of the Alcester Minster Benefice are looking to appoint an Associate Minister (House for Duty) to work alongside the Rector and other members of our growing team. The benefice has been designated one of Coventry Diocese’s six Mission Hubs. Their role is to resource, enable and facilitate mission activity in creative ways, growing confidence and taking initiatives that support parishes across the area to reimagine church in our post COVID society. We welcome applications from capable priests who can support the role as stated above and who are: collaborative, a team player, able to provide clear but empowering support for the ongoing development of the Minster as we share Christ’s life and love with the communities we serve.
