Do you have stories of God answering prayer?

A new Christian landmark is to be built in the Midlands. Eternal Wall will be a huge, thought-provoking piece of public art, aiming to kindle conversations about prayer.

The iconic structure will be constructed using one million bricks, each brick featuring an answered prayer. This Christian landmark will make hope visible by digitally linking visitors with a database of one million answered prayers, using interactive technology and a bespoke app. Visitors will be able to use their smart device, holding it against any brick to read the individual answered prayers.

Built near Coleshill on the outskirts of Birmingham, Eternal Wall will stand at 169 feet, eclipsing the size of the Angel of the North, and is expected to attract 300,000 visitors each year. 500,000 journeys will see Eternal Wall every week from the M6, M42, HS2, and flight paths from Birmingham Airport.

The idea of the Eternal Wall project is to grow a nation of storytellers who are able to articulate the hope they’ve found in God through sharing answered prayers – whilst the physical landmark will be in the Midlands, the stories of hope will be accessible via the app from anywhere in the world. The core aim is to Make Hope Visible in the UK and further afield.

Why will no one sing with me? Part II
The second part to James Henney’s blog on singing.

In part one, we talked about some of the reasons why people find it difficult to sing, and my feeling is, that ultimately it boils down to confidence, and enjoyment. Singing an unfamiliar song at a pitch that is uncomfortably high (or low) is not enjoyable. In fact, it’s often hard work, and makes it difficult to actually focus on the act of worshipping. In the first part of this article, we talked about pitch, and collaborating as a team to find what works for your congregation. Now I want to look at helping to build people’s confidence by giving them a chance to get to know the songs they’ll be singing, by restricting the number of songs that you use.

A Welcoming Church

Who comes to your church? How welcome are other people to come? This module will help you to explore why welcome is important and how much broader it is than just a friendly face at the door. As we look at the different aspects of welcome, it will help us to notice and reflect on our own churches and our personal role in noticing and expanding our welcome.

This course is split into five sessions which each last two hours. The sessions are:

Session 3 – Welcoming buildings
Session 4 – Welcoming services
Session 5 – Welcoming relationships

We Believe: The Creeds as an Introduction to Faith and Prayer

In this module we shall explore how the Bible, Christian experience and theology relate to each other, and why Christians believe what they do. By the end of the module you will have looked at the basics of Christian theology and begun to think about how you might explain these to others, both inside church and beyond.

This course is split into five sessions which each last two hours. The sessions are:

Session 1: We believe in… – why bother with theology?
Session 2: …one God, the Father Almighty – what kind of God do Christians follow?
Session 3: …Jesus Christ, the only Son – what does it means to be human and divine?
Session 4: ….the Holy Spirit, the giver of life – how does the Spirit fit in?
Session 5: ….one holy catholic and apostolic Church – what’s the point of the Church?

Children Leader’s Retreat

God loves us so much he wants us to spend time with him and to be refreshed. But so often life gets in the way and we find ourselves endlessly busy. As children, youth and families leaders (paid and voluntary) we can be creating those spaces and opportunities for others but find it hard to do ourselves. Attending a retreat can be a great way of setting that time aside.

This retreat will be exploring the idea of agape; God’s unconditional love. At May Blossom Farm we have the joy of being able to explore, wander and respond using the space outside as well as the shelter of the barn. The morning will be guided as we journey together reflecting on God’s love for us. As we are all refreshed in different ways there will be a variety of options to respond in the most helpful way for you, including interactive prayer, space to be quiet and space to discuss with others.

Updated Covid Guidance
Two years ago, Covid guidance was being updated daily.  The Church of England produced about two dozen separate guidance documents, and some of them were re-issued many times.  The Prime Minister would make a television announcement, then it would take a week for civil servants to clarify the details.  Only then could a team of advisors in the Church of England work out what this meant for parish churches.  There was also confusion about what was mandatory, and what was recommended.

Now that all legal restrictions have been removed, the Church of England has only one main guidance document which you can view by clicking here.

Two Ukraine Appeals
The Church of England is commending two complementary appeals to help the humanitarian effort in Ukraine:

The Disaster Emergency Committee’s appeal, which brings together 15 leading aid charities, including Christian Aid, Tearfund, CAFOD and World Vision, has issued an emergency appeal for Ukraine.

Complementary to the DEC appeal, USPG and the Diocese in Europe have launched an emergency appeal to get aid to people in desperate need. Funds raised will support Christian charities and churches carrying out humanitarian work both in Ukraine and in Neighbouring countries.

Come Back to Singing
Now that we are singing again, and following on from James Henney’s blog, anyone who enjoys singing is warmly invited to join the RSCM (Royal School of Church Music) singing event on Saturday, May 7th between 2pm and 4pm at Holy Trinity Church, Stratford-on-Avon.

‘Come Back to Singing’ will explore the readily accessible music of Taizé, Iona and Margaret Rizza. Both singers and those who play wind or string instruments (Grade 5ish) are welcome. The afternoon will be led by Douglas Keilitz, who is Director of Music at Holy Trinity, and will end with a short act of worship incorporating the music we have learnt.  The cost of the afternoon is £5.

World Christianity Summer Institute 2022
The CCCW is establishing an annual residential Summer Institute on ‘World Christianity and Global Challenges’ to take place in Cambridge every year. It is a wonderful opportunity for Christians to gather together to learn about Christianity in other parts of the world. It is also an opportunity to build relationships as global Christians together.

The Summer Institute will have the participants from diverse geographical backgrounds, denominations, and age groups. It will bring together theological students, educators, researchers as well as any Christian interested in learning about Christianity in another part of the world. There will be talks on the chosen challenge, but much of the time will be spent in conversations – both formal (in groups) and informal – and in workshops and historical tours related to World Christianity.

This year’s event will take place from 18th – 22nd July 2022 with a theme of ‘Grief, Resilience, and Hope amid the Pandemic’. For more information, click here.
HOPE Coventry Refugee Hosting information evening
Who and where are refugees in Coventry and coming to Coventry?

What is hosting a refugee in your house really like?

What church support is available to refugees presently? How can your local church join in?

HOPE Coventry will provide an evening of discussion and Q&A regarding what local Christian initiatives are available to help Ukrainian and other local refugees. This will include sharing personal experiences of the positives and challenges of hosting refugees. Some information will be relevant to Warwickshire more widely.

New Wine Regional Celebration
