The role of churchwarden is an historic and significant one – it will be a different experience in every church but there is some information you need to know that is common to all and some that you will find really useful.  The role has a well-established legal status based on Canon (church) law and so can seem daunting and mystifying but this toolkit presents information in a brief, user-friendly way whilst providing links to more details if required. As well as the information, we provide you with a quiz to test your knowledge and a discussion area where you can ask the community for advice or share good ideas.  There is also a list of related information sources and how the Diocese can help with anything you need.

Completion time approximately 70 minutes

You can revisit this site any time you like to ask questions or remind yourself of the details.

This toolkit is designed for three groups of people:

New to the role – find out all you need to know then try the quizzes to test your knowledge.
Existing churchwardens – fill in some gaps in your knowledge, join the ‘Ask anything’ group and get useful help and advice.
Considering the role – find out more before you dive in.
