What is it?

At the heart of Christian worship is the profound truth that we are reconciled to God through Jesus Christ. Yet there are moments when reconciliation needs to be brought to the forefront of our worship—times when the Church is called to speak healing into the life of a community, a nation, or a congregation.

Whether marking significant occasions like Windrush Day, Refugee Week, or the anniversary of the Coventry Blitz, or responding to local disputes, tragedies, or injustices, liturgy can become a powerful tool for reflection, healing, and hope.

In this practical workshop, we will:
• Explore existing resources for the Liturgy of Reconciliation, including Common Worship: The Reconciliation of a Penitent
• Reflect on biblical foundations for reconciliation
• Learn how to craft liturgy that is contextually rich, pastorally sensitive, and spiritually resonant

This session will be led by Reverend Nitano Muller, Canon for Worship and Welcome at Coventry Cathedral. Rev. Canon Nitano Muller is a priest and liturgist shaped by the unique theological landscape of post-apartheid South Africa. Trained at the College of the Transfiguration and formed in ministry under the shadow of national reconciliation, Nitano served as Chaplain to Archbishop Desmond Tutu- an experience that deepened his commitment to liturgy as a tool for justice, healing, and belonging.

He was a consultant to the Anglican Church of Southern Africa’s Liturgical Committee, contributing to Prayer Book revisions with a particular focus on inculturation and the development of new liturgies for everyday life. Now serving at Coventry Cathedral as Canon for Worship and Welcome, he brings his passion for reconciliation, rooted in lived experience, to global conversations about worship and transformation.

Who is it for?

This workshop is designed for those seeking hands-on experience in a church context, including:
• Pastoral ministers
• Community engagement workers
• Lay leaders (licensed or unlicensed)

While the course will engage with Scripture and Christian liturgical traditions, it is open to participants of all denominations—and none—who are interested in the transformative power of reconciliation in worship.
