Has anyone ever made an assumption about you? Have you ever made an assumption about someone else?

There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 3:28

It may sound simple but even with the best intentions we and others do not always get it right.

This session is not about telling what to do or what the correct answer is. But to help us become more aware of why we and others make assumptions, so we can be more conscious about them and how that affects how we treat people around us and how we respond when people make assumptions about us.

So, join us as we meet to:

  • Understand why everyone makes assumptions.
  • Explore the impact of unconscious bias on how people act and respond.
  • Reflect on how we can be more conscious of our biases so we can make clearer choices.
  • Consider the influence we can have in our communities and churches to be more welcoming to the people we meet.

The session will be interactive with conversations, personal reflections and activities to help us think about the topic now and as we go out beyond the session time.
