Event information
Church buildings have important roles as centres of faith, community and of our nation’s heritage and craftsmanship, and they are the symbols of our witness to God in the landscape. Many of these wonderful buildings need repair, and rely largely on the help of the dedicated volunteers who care for them.
Developing a good programme of building maintenance is a critical job when caring for a church building. Poor maintenance results in increased repair costs and rapid escalation of consequential damage. It can also contribute to increasing your carbon footprint, and affect the security and wider perception of your church in the community.
This free training session focuses on providing support for churchwardens and other volunteers, tasked with the job of helping to maintain this important part of our faith and heritage. Through a mix of lecture style learning and practical exercises, this session will:
- explore what ‘maintenance’ is and why it is important
- introduce common maintenance issues and how to spot them
- Provide information on how to tackle common maintenance tasks
- Consider the health and safety implications of maintenance projects
- Advise on how to develop a practical maintenance plan for your church building
The session is FREE and refreshments will be provided!
