January update from our Diocesan Secretary

I think January and February can be very hard months, and in last week’s Church Times, I was particularly struck by a headline ‘Clergy well-being is less, study finds’.

This is true in our Diocese, like many others across the UK. When we conducted our own survey in 2021, 43% of clergy said their wellbeing had deteriorated during the past three years with a higher proportion saying they were “weary”. Much of this can be attributed to life after the pandemic and some to the current cost of living crisis.

Worship Leaders' Breakfast

Come and Sing Candlemas Eucharist
The Royal School of Church Music invites you to Come and Sing the Candlemas Eucharist on Saturday, February 4th, at St. Mary’s Church, Tysoe CV35 0SG from 4pm until 7pm.

Whether you are a choir or an individual who just loves singing, you are invited to this beautiful church, to sing together and share the Candlemas Eucharist. The afternoon will be led by Julian Harris, Musical Director and Conductor of the St. James’ Singers and Banbury Choral Society. Rehearsal from 4pm, then all are welcome to join us for the service at 6pm.

The Marriage Course
St Marks, Coventry, are running the Marriage Course starting on Monday 30th January. This course is a great space for couples to invest in their marriage. The course is suitable whether you are newlyweds or a bit further along that that!

Would your church like to hear more about BRF and its ministries?
The Bible Reading Fellowship has been publishing resources — including a wide range of popular bible reading notes – to support individuals and the local church and community for over 100 years. It is also the home of Messy Church, Parenting for Faith and Anna Chaplaincy for Older People.

As the church advocate for BRF in your area, Jane Butcher is available to support the work of the Diocese in any way she can. If you would like a bookstall at events, someone to speak about the work and ministries of BRF at diocesan or deanery events or in individual churches, or something tailor-made, please get in touch with her at jane.butcher@brf.org.uk
A Theology of Planting?

‘A Theology of Planting?’ will be the first academic conference that specifically addresses church planting and starting new churches to be held in the UK. The conference is being hosted by the Centre for Church Planting Theology and Research based at Cranmer Hall, Durham.

The conference will be held in person on 20th – 22nd March, 2023. Over the three days we will have a mix of plenary sessions – including input from missionary theologians Cathy Ross and Stefan Paas – and breakout sessions in which theologian-practitioners will be presenting papers. Alongside all this there will be plenty of time to network, share ideas, and enjoy Durham city and surroundings.

Giving is integral to every church. Whether this is time, money, spiritual gifts, practical skills or other resources. Being generous with all that God has given us is Biblical, is a key Spiritual practice and is an essential factor in growing healthy churches. As a diocese we are seeking to promote a culture of generosity to further the good work already happening in our churches.

We are looking for someone who is able to encourage others in the important relationship between generous giving and mission and can help churches across the Diocese to develop and demonstrate a culture of generosity and how to align their resources with the Diocese’s vision and mission of their church.

The parish of St Catherine’s is in Coventry East Deanery, an exciting and varied place with a very multi-cultural mix of people living and worshipping in our churches.  We have the fastest growing population of any deanery in the diocese and we are the most densely populated and most deprived deanery in the diocese.  This brings its own set of challenges but also opportunities as can be seen in the varied way each church is seeking to build the kingdom in their parish.

Associate Minister House for Duty, Hillmorton
We are seeking a priest who will help us to grow missionally, discipling and nurturing those in our midst; someone who is prepared to meet people where they are at, bringing the light and love of Christ into new lives.

the role is to:

– Be fully engaged with the life of both churches and wider communities.
– Be fully committed to growth, taking the roots that have already been set and using them to further disciple and nurture others, so that we may be an active visible presence in our communities and within our congregations.
– Be actively involved in the vision we have for the future of our churches in Hillmorton and Houlton.
– Help us to disciple more families, children and young people in our worshipping communities.
– Be involved in all areas of ministry with specific leadership responsibility for some areas of church life
– Conduct occasional offices
– Lead worship and preach across all our services.

Reconciliation Initiatives seeks to appoint a new half-time Administrator, to work in partnership with the Executive Director, Associates and Board of Trustees.

Feed the Hungry UK - Warehouse Manager
Feed The Hungry UK is an international charity supporting projects across the world and also locally focused supporting Coventry Foodbank, and projects across Hinckley, Warwickshire and Leicestershire. Our warehouses are in  Coventry and Hinckley.

As Warehouse Manager, you’ll be responsible for a vital part of the supply chain process for Feed the Hungry, you will manage people, including staff and volunteers; processes and systems in order to ensure goods are received and dispatched appropriately. You will be responsible for facilities management and warehouse workplace health and safety standards. This is a full time role with a salary of £30,000 p/a.
